Der Brief ist gezeichnet mit dem griechischen Buchstaben Sigma. – Tyson identifiziert den Autor als Johann Reinhold Schultz, (s. Z 2095, J. R. Schultz and his visit to Beethoven, in: Musical times 113(1972)). Tyson widerspricht Kerst, der Edward Schulz als Autor dieses Briefes nennt (s. Die Erinnerungen an Beethoven, Bd. 2, S. 58).
